Hi guys
so I'm a little bit confused here, I received my new study permit in September ( by study permit extension) and I am also from a visa-exempt country do I still need to apply my eta if I am trying to re-enter Canada?
Your ETA should have been issued with your initial permit and valid for 5 years assuming you do not have a new passport. The ETA is linked to a passport not a study or work permit so check you were issued one originally, If post 8/2015 believe ETAs were issued automatically with any permits but try checking the ETA status tool anyway, worst case pay 7 dollars for a new one if not sure.
Only sure thing is you need an ETA to board a plane.
