Hi,
My mum was living in Canada from 82 to 85. She was a permanent resident. but British citizen living now in the UK with british passport.
We are going on holiday next weekend to canada.
she tried to apply for an ETA but it came up that she had to choose either to renew her permanent residence or choose to renounce it. We really don't have time for this now as we are travelling. We sent them an email to say please cancel the Eta application.
Will she now have trouble travelling with her British passport next weekend? we are really all stressed out. I am fine I have canadian passport so does my father.
She has been back on holiday in 1990 and 94 with no issue but now it's messy.
if anybody knows please advise!
She can travel to Canada on her British passport; the eTA isn't required until the end of September. When checking in, she shouldn't mention anything about her PR status to the airline; she is travelling as a visitor.
When she enters Canada, she needs to present herself as a PR. Assuming she has been living with her Canadian citizen spouse in the UK, she is in compliance with the PR Residency Obligation.

In future though if wanting to travel to Canada post end Sept 2016 assuming the mum does not want to renounce PR she will need a travel document as spouse of a Canadian citizen living outside Canada given as a PR cannot apply for an ETA http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/5529ETOC.asp
