Just curious as to how needing an eTA as of March will affect those from visa exempt countries who applied inland but still travel out of canada (against recommendations not to). Would applying for eTA automatically notify CIC that an inland applicant is trying to come back to canada while their inland app is in process?

I think the only honest answer is that it's impossible for anyone to say. We'll have to see what happens to people who try this once eTA is in place. Any advice you get now would just be a random guess.

I agree. We will have to wait and see. It looks though the eTA system is connected to all CIC and CBSA data as there was a post in general section about someone applying for eTA and the system advising them they have to renounce their PR as they did not meet their PR obligation.
