In the checklist it indicates the sponsor should send an original letter with their salary, hours and period of employment.
My husband can not ask his employer for this, at this time, in case they'd be suspicious and end his employment. He recently began this job, within the last month. However, his prior employer he was with for over 10 years.
We were intending on sending his current paystub, hiring letter/offer of employment which is on letterhead from the company and states his salary, ect. And a letter indicating why he is unable to request that at this time.
In my experience letters of employment are requested for things like mortgages and loans. My employer did not ask why I needed a letter but we have almost 150 employees so this is probably a common request.
I would not supply a reason unless specifically asked for one, in which case you could state that you have been requested to submit one for an application that you are having processed. No one needs to know the details as they are private.
Thanks Heather. We (obviously) didn't think of that -and given our house is going up for sale in the next few weeks, that wouldn't be a very long stretch - he thinks that will be an adequate reason.
And i also believe that they could not end his employment for that as it would be wrongfull dismissal. And they can not ask why you want a letter of employment either as it is personal.
So go ahead ask for it.They can not refuse or fire you for this its against the law.In Canada and the US

Actually most states in the US are "at will" which means they the right to terminate employment for any reason or no reason at all. They can ask for a reason although it is none of their business, but he doesn't have to give them a reason. It is unlikely that they will fire him for saying he needs it for an application, which is the truth. What kind if application doesn't need to be specified in order to get out of answering the question truthfully.
I told my boss since I was living outside of Canada for 4 years, that they wanted proof that I am ok and not in jail. My boss had no problem with it. Little does HE know I am quitting next year once my wifes application goes through.
WI is definitely an 'at will' state like Heather said - it is highly unlikely they will fire him if asked for it and says it's for an application. We never really thought about that - and it seems so easy/and I doubt his boss will question it further.
