Hi everyone! Is it legal for an employer to take rent out of my paycheck even if I don't live in his staff accommodation?
I think he is doing it because he gave me a skilled job (so I can apply for PR) but never really tried to promote me which he promised 3 years ago when he was trying to get me in the PNP program (which didn't work out). I got all the signed documents to prove it. He's been taking rent for 2 years now and I don't really understand because we didn't have an agreement on this. Besides, I was already doing a skilled job when I left him 2 years ago after the failed PNP application (mostly his fault because he didn't have LMO that time, so I have to save myself and find another job).
I don't know what to do, I tried to tell him about it but he never did something to fix it. He has more than $3000++ of my money from the so called "rent" . I feel it's not right but I don't really know how to deal with this since my PR application is on process. I'm a good worker and I don't deserve this, that money is a big help for my family.
What should I do? Should I wait to get my PR and sue him? Or should I just forget it and move on? (out of gratitude)

* I left in December 2009- June 2010 to work for a different employer who gave me a skilled job
* I came back to work for him in July 2010 and working for him until now
* I just got my new work permit with him until 2014 (so more money for him to take???)
