Hi guys,

I am a graduate student with Master in Engineering Degree. graduated last year. I am confused about this question and could not find a clear answer anywhere.

1. Before graduating itself, I was working with a company as a Research Engineer Contractor. For 8 months I worked 24hrs/week until I graduated in December 2016. After that I started working in the same company full time, 40hrs/week, on the similar extended contract as Research Engineer. It was in September 2017 that I became a full time employee (still on probation though)..... so basically I worked
(A) 24hrs/week for eight months on contract when I was in school,
(B) 40hrs/week for 8 months after graduating as Research COntractor again
(C) 40hrs per week working as a full time employee from September 2017.

I know the experience A (while I was still a student would not be considered). Will CEC consider my experience B?

2. I also filed for BC PNP and it got approved within 1 week. Can I still opt for Express entry which is way faster than the other process?

I will be very thankful for any guidance or advice.
Thank you.

Do you realize it sounds like you violated the terms of your study permit by working more than 20 hours per week?

Depends. Contract or term-limited employment does count as employment. But some people use the term "contractor" when they are self-employed, as well. Self-employment experience does not count.

The difference -
contract employment - you are classified an employee; you are on payroll, your employer makes statutory deductions (takes taxes out of your paycheck), you receive a T4.

Self-employment - you are not classified as an employee, you are a contractor; you submit invoices and receive payments for your services; you pay your own taxes; and you receive a T4A.
