What do you mean by surname?

Your surname is your family name. It is sometimes called your “last name.” If your name is spelled differently on your official documents, please write your name as shown in your passport. When filling out applications, type your surname as it appears on your passport, travel or identity document or any letters you got from the visa office or case processing centre where you sent your application (even if the name is misspelled). Do not use initials.

If you do not have a surname on your passport, travel or identity document, enter all your given name(s) in the surname field, write “not applicable” or “N/A” in the given name field.

Dear Seniors, Qorax, Bestpal et all,

Please help me with the following query.

My son Vignesh Krishnamurthy who is nineteen years of age has been studying at the University of Toronto in the School of Engineering & applied sciences since September 2012. He is currently in Dubai spending his summer break with us.

My question is regarding his "Criminal Record Check" for Canada. Would he be needing a police certificate from Canada?

The website is quite ambiguous about it. Please see link. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/security/police-cert/north-america/canada.asp. It says it is required only in certain cases. Could any one of you seniors please let me know if my son should apply for one?

A quick response would be much appreciated.

yes he needs Criminal Record Check, it can be taken from Toronto but only if the CHC asks for that

I am sent my passport & documents to my brother in London he will submit the same in CIC London today.

Are u currently in Toronto? If yes, have u got a survival job as u put u have to compete with kids raised here. Do u feel that u were better off in Dubai? Will u ever make it to ur actual job in the near future? Can u save anything here? Is the Toronto group started by the CAPTAIN closed or is it still goin on.

Hi All

As we are coming close to making the final move there are a lot of questions cropping up

The key one for us currently is gold - While we have a stamped list of all the gold jewellery and were hoping to sell some of it before moving, our current thought process is to carry all the gold with us as the rate of gold is quite low and there are signs that it will remain at this level for sometime.
While taking stock of the jewellery we realized that it will be picked up quite easily at the Xray in Dubai ( since it will be in our hand baggage and not checked in)

Does anyone know of the procedure to get some documentation signed/stamped by Dubai customs to avoid any hassles at the airport.
The reason I ask is because my mother got stopped recently at the airport wen she was carrying 4 gold sets for her use to India during my cousin's wedding

Any help/guidance in this matter is appreciated
