Does replacing passport affect pgwp application?

Hello everyone,

My passport is destroyed badly, I already applied for replacing it. But it took me four months already! I do not know when it will be done. so I have to use the information of my old passport to apply for a PGWP which is also very long.

1. It will be very possible that I get my new passport during the pgwp processing time, then I have to update my passport via Webform. Will that take a long time to replace files in pgwp application?
2. Can I not update passport information, just wait for a pgwp with old passport information even though I have a new passport with a totally different number? Does that matter? Does that make my pgwp invalid?

1. Not possible to pre-determine processing time
2. you can apply for pgwp with your current passport, send webform to update once you receive new passport. if you need trv and you are not in need to travel soon, use new passport for trv

Thank you Simba! Do you know what will happen if I do not update my new passport or I get my new passport after I get my pgwp since we can not pre-determine processing time?

Nothing will happen if you are in Canada, but when travel back to Canada, there will be delays during issuing Boarding pass. I experienced this in 2017 and missed my flight. So it is important to update once you receive new passport number, it wont cost you anything and take less than 15mins

I have another question about the trv you mentioned early. You said: "if you need trv and you are not in need to travel soon, use the new passport for trv".
When I get my new passport, my pgwp is in progress, and TRV is issued based on a study permit or work permit. In my case, will I still be approved for the new TRV correspond with my study permit? Thanks again!

In your case, you will apply to extend your trv once your pgwp is approved.....

Thanks for the reply! Could you please tell me the reason? Just curious. Without trv I have to stay in Canada and can not go back home which kind of sucks...
