Hi! My wife is in Canada with me. She is a Japanese national. She’s been in Canada since September 1 of this year and we know she has an automatic six month visa waiver.
We just sent out her family class application recently so we would like to know if she needs to extend or change her status once she reaches her six month here in Canada even though we mailed out her application.
Thank you!

If she applied for an owp with the app then as long as the owp is being processed before her visitor status expires then you do not need to do anything, the owp app gives her valid status even before it’s approved.
You have lots of leeway with this, she has valid visitor status until March 1 so by then the owp should be in process.
If by some chance the owp is returned (usually for incorrect fees) then yes should definitely go and extend visitor status, but I wouldn’t even worry about that until mid February, by then you should know or not if the owp app is in process.
