My husband is sponsoring me for PR, we sent our application in April 2014. I had visitor visa which expired in January 2014, we extended it until July 2014. Obviously, the decision will not be made on our application until July 2014. Do I have to extend my visitor visa once again? Or do I get an implied status once I sent my application and can I stay in Canada until I receive the answer?
And second question - we've been trying to check our application status online but it's not there yet. How much time does it take on average for application to appear on site? In our case it's been 20 days (not a lot but we're a bit concerned).

the "average" wait time for SA is 34 days, and climbing. you are aren't even close yet. there are people from March still waiting for information. this information is updated weekly on the CIC site. also, you will see on the site, they haven't even gotten to your application's date yet. They are currently working on applications received March 21st-ish. Unless inland is different in wait times, i wouldn't be concerned yet. I can't see it being any quicker for Inland.
you won't be able to check the online system for information until you receive a UCI # or File #, which generally comes with SA. Contrary to what it says online, receipt numbers do not work! Once you've passed the 34 day mark, it's advised to call the call center and ask for an update.

You could have included an Open Work Permit (OWP) with your Inland application that would have given you implied status, but you still may be able to send one now, before your status expires. Best to contact CIC and find out.
