Hello all. If one receives a COPR but is still wrapping up things outside of Canada and during tha period receives a job offer, can they move to Canada and begin working while their PR card application is pending? In other words, can you start working with only a COPR and while waiting for your PR card to arrive? Thanks.

PR Card is a requirement to authenticate your status in Canada only needed when you exit and return. You are free to work, However if you do not have a Social Insurance Number, you should consider getting one from Service Canada before looking for an employment.

You don't need a valid PR Card to exit Canada...or even to enter Canada (if entering at a land PoE in a personal vehicle). While a valid PR card is the best evidence of status, all that is needed is something (i.e. even an expired card) that shows that the person is a PR. Obviously, if the PR has not met the Residency Requirement, they could be reported by CBSA which could lead to their status being revoked.

Not many immigrants driving to USA and return. Most of their travels are across the continents. If they choose to travel by air and return to Canada without having a valid PR card or PRTD, They cannot clear immigration and land. Yes - No status of PR required when exiting the country. Thanks
