Yes, You need an LMO to extend your work permit. LMO should be applied 3 months before your work permit expired so, you have ample time to wait for the reply and don't forget to extend your papers 30 days before the work permit expires.
I learned my lesson about this working permit application, I went out of status because the LMO was denied few times. I applied for Family Sponsorship route instead and I'm just waiting for the papers now.
Also I put in my application for an LMO about 8 wks ago to the address on the bottom of the form. After being forwarded to another address, they sent ti back to me. Where do I send it in Alberta?????
Again - you'll need to be more specific. What kind of open work permit? A working holiday visa? An open work permit based on having a spouse in Canada who is either a foreign worker or foreign student? Something else? I'm guessing you're on a working holiday visa / IEC - but you'll need to be specific and confirm.
Yes - the LMO costs $275. However you can't apply for an LMO - only your employer can apply for one. If you are currently on an IEC / working holiday visa, then your employer will have to advertise your job for at least a month to prove that no Canadian could be hired for the role before submitting the LMO application. If you are on a working holiday visa / IEC, has your employer met the advertising requirement?
Ok. Thank you so much! Is that my only option? So I can only extend with a job offer??? I have my job, I was just hoping to extend my current visa with out having to commit to one job.

You can't extend the IEC. If you qualify, you can apply for a second IEC (you will have to see if this is allowed for your country and if any openings for this year remain).
Otherwise you need the approved LMO if you want to change your work permit to a close work permit and continue working. However the LMO does commit you to one specific job.
Ok... well.... My visa expires at the end of June. So I better get onto it and hope for the best! Why is it hard!.... Don't fall in love with a Canadian. ;D
I need your help please, I hold 2 closed work permits, the first one will expire on August 30,2014 and the second one will expire on April 30, 2015. I resigned from both works for personal reasons. I resigned on the last work effective Feb 28, 2014. Now, I have passed my PR application in NS thru PNP and just got my AOR and medical requests. I have the following questions please.
1.) Will I be legible to apply to BOWP within 4 months before my first work permit will expire?
2.) Up to how many work permits a foreign worker can hold at the same time?
I hope you or anybody can hepl me with this.
Thank you!
