I have seen online that working in the hospitality industry is a semi skilled worker and doesn't need a lmo to get a work permit. Is that true? I was also told by canada border here in Victoria i just need a job offer from a hotel and I can flagpole at any port of entry. Is that true? I am here on a TRV for 1 year and my wife is canadian citizen. We just filed for sponsorship thru outbound process and have a baby on the way so I am looking to get a work permit asap since I don't want to wait 13 months to work. I have realized no employers here will do the LMO option so it has been hard to get work here.

Thanks for your info and help.

I'm almost 100% sure that you need an approved LMIA for that job.

That's what i figured but when I went to import my car at the border....the border agent said i just needed a job offer and to flagpole to get a work permit. It didn't sound right to me...just wanted to double check
