So very happy to report after nine months we got DM. Assuming it's positive, I have a few questions.

We have a trip to Ireland booked Feb 16 to Mar 4. At this time, I don't think we will get COPR and PR card in time for this trip. I think we may delay landing. If we do this, I'm hoping we can delay until Mar 4 (medicals expire in April)

His visitor visa expires late January. Does this matter now?

Additionally, we're going back for a visit as his mother has recently been diagnosed with brain cancer. Is this an instance where a PR Card would be rushed, and is it worth trying?

Thanks to everyone in advance x

One more thing.

If we land and do not have the PR card on time, can we go to Ireland anyway, and have my family post it over when it comes...even if that means he has to change his flight back?

In other words, do we need it to leave Canada, or just get back in?

So happy for you :)

In regards to the visitor visa... DM, getting a PPR, getting your COPR unfortunately does not provide any implied status whatsoever. So until he actually lands, he needs to stay in status (assuming that is something you care about lol). So if realistically he is not going to land prior to his visitor visa being up, he needs to apply for an extension.

He won't need his PR card to fly out of Canada. (They can't legally, like, keep you from leaving). He only needs it for the return flight back.

Thanks! So either we delay landing and renew visitor visa or land and hope we get the PR card before or while we're in Ireland. Absolute worst case if we go without it my family can post it over and change the flight. Cheers!!!

I believe you can apply for a temporary travel document if you do not have the PR card yet and you have already landed and are outside Canada. You would do that from Ireland, or wherever the embassy would be. You should look into that. Here's some info from the website:

Permanent residents returning to Canada by airplane, boat, train or bus must show a valid Permanent Resident Card (PR card) or Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD) before boarding.

Use this application if you are outside Canada, you have lost your PR card and you need proof of your status to return to Canada.
