“We have been living together for more than 3 years, but we filed our tax separately while filing "Single". (He does not have any income, so I don't really worry about the tax.)”
This inferring leads to one that they ARE in a commonlaw relationship. The only reason she didn’t fess up to changing their relationship status with the Government was the bf had nil income .
They were commonlaw
You both are most likely right. Which, again, I acknowledged in my very first post. However, I proposed to the OP to seek a legal advise. Since I have at least one known record where exact same (your) arguments didn't hold and PFL was successfully addressed, precisely based on the weak definition of conjugal relationship. I see no reason of such hostile reaction though.... perhaps you both have a law degree or read a lot of court cases on that matter, if so I humbly retreat.

You seem to go out of you way to show me that I'm wrong.
hostile
adjective
showing or feeling opposition or dislike; unfriendly.
Calling someone's view "twisted" just because you don't agree is certainly fails under that definition. Neither I've seen any constructive argumentation except that "they've been living for 3 years" so they are guilty. For merely suggesting that this MIGHT not be the case. This conversion isn't focusing on the problem the OP have...
Just lot's of wrong assumptions... even your "this generation" just proves my point that you are very good at making false assumptions; because you have no idea. Too bad that your "I know everything" will hurt many people here seeking an advise who will not see simple ignorance behind overinflated ego.
The truth is...nobody can say with absolute certainty what will happen. It's fair to state that IRCC `Ain't stupid' and when they compare the details in the OP's `boyfriend's' application (who can't even call him their common-law partner, which he is), it may be easy to deduce that the OP did represent themselves.
