My BG was done on 12th Feb. The only thing I am waiting for is LPP; Whats your timeline. As per my observation of data from past from here best case scenario it should be done under 1 month, medium case - 1-2 , worst - sky is the limit

I have done 4-5 visits to my home country, stayed out of canada for 170 days once , changed states within canada; stayed in almost 10 different homes; Still my BG was cleared. I was suspecting that IRCC might send me finger print or queries. But I provided every inch of details, consulting a lawyer.
I am curious why some people get BGs
LPP is Language, Prohibition and Physical Presence check. When you log into your tracker you will see these and their status like In Progress or not started

As far as I read on other threads it is for IRCC to have certain applicant submit fingerprints as part of process. Or in the case where the RCMP search showed similar names and to verify the identity. But this is normal, so many people are getting it and once we submit the BG gets cleared within few days or weeks. I am glad that things are moving.

LPP stands for Language Skills, Physical Presence and Prohibitions
All three categories are on your tracker and are marked in-progress from day 1. However, they are worked in after the background or BG check is completed. For those that get asked to attend an interview, the LPP is completed after the interview.

Similarity is names with other people in the data base, thats the main reason , so if you have a common name/family name likely you're going for biometrics.

To reinforce on moman21’s post, I would say there definitely is a random aspect when it comes to the fingerprint requests. The most common reason is that your name and/or DOB is similar to someone who might have criminal records and/or prohibitions, but sometimes people get the fingerprint request I think just by random selection. I’ve been living in Canada since I was a minor, never travelled continuously for more than a week, have a combination of first, middle and last name that probably only 2 people on the planet have, never even got a parking ticket in my life but still got a fingerprint request.
bottom line, don’t be alarmed if you got a fingerprint request and someone else did not.

I also received fingerprint request letter today. I agree it just random. I've live in Canada before 18years old and having a unique asian dialect name lol. This is just a matter of luck.

My theory is that one reason is for those who didn't give biometrics before or did it when they are young or for whatever reason (like biometrics under an older system) they don't consider 'correct' anymore.

I have been a PR for 15 years and never gave biometrics. I did give my FBI clearance for PR application and now for citizenship because I've been back and forth between US and Canada these past 15 years.
