In my case, my spouse fingerprints were received on February 20 and no update ever since. So yeah, it is random indeed in terms of time it can take.

Same here, FP received on Feb 19 and still waiting for BC & other status items to complete.

So I called IRCC last week to have an update on my application and the kind agent replied that everything is done but background is in progress. When I asked for detail about the parts of background he said that the Criminality has passed but they are still working on the Security Screening.
For timeline please see my signature. I know quite a few applicants from Mississauga office who are stuck on Background. So ig such applicants should call IRCC and inquire about their application if possible.

I am still waiting on both, last update was "fingerprints received" on March 7 but radio silence since then.

i called IRCC today and was able to speak to an officer. The officer was very nice and looked into my application. It seemed to me the information he was able to see was exactly the same one we see when we pull the see off the ground.
like many people have noted, this is a waiting game, paticen is our only medicine.
i really liked the post by one person who spoke about enjoying this wonderful trip of becoming Canadian citizen.

yes, that is the number. i called them in the morning.
