Would you recommend not travelling at all during the PR process?

There are 2 risks
1. As mentioned, if it's determined you're no longer residing in Canada with your sponsor, the app can be cancelled
2. If for any reason CBSA denies you entry back into Canada, the app is cancelled

Many visa-exempt applicants travel outside Canada while an inland app is in progress, and 99.9% of the time there are no issues and they return to Canada no problem. However I would just keep trips as short as possible (less than a month) so there is never a question about where you're residing. You can possibly get away with longer, but it really depends on if IRCC even notices, and then if the visa officer decides to do anything about it.

Thanks CDNPR2014 for clarifying more concisely in one post. My sleep deprived brain is trying to get up to speed on it all.

Given the banter between Bcboundboy and profiler originally, it wasn't easy to follow, and I'll admit the tv reference deterred me initially.
Looks like I'll be having a few words with my consultant, and given I cant work, I'll be staying in Australia to visit for a month more before heading home.

yeah, i wouldn't rely too much on consultants. as you have experienced, they give out wrong advice all the time. you are going to get better advice from this forum because we've all been through the process one way or another and are speaking from actual experience.

as rob mentioned - if you applied inland you want to get back to Canada sooner rather than later. you can simply do this by entering as a visitor and waiting for your OWP to arrive once you're in. There's nothing wrong with wanting to "Visit" your spouse. If they ask about your work intentions, tell them you have no intentions since your work permit is expired. You are there to visit. Carrying proof of your PR application and fees paid will help, and it's usually best to travel with a return ticket that is within 1-3 months of your entry. and all you need is a refundable ticket you can cancel once you're in.
