My wife who is Japanese and from Japan came to visit me in Canada in Feb 2020 on a visitor visa and has been here ever since. We got married in late 2020.
She is now applying for permanent residence and we are filling out the forms where they ask for her "current country of residence" and we are not sure what to put.
She has been in canada for the past 20 months now on a visitor visa so would we put "Canada" as our answer? or Japan?
She has applied successfully 2 times to get an extension which would add an extra 6 months for each time which would total 18 months. She is currently applying for a 3rd extension and awaiting an answer. (usually takes about 6 months to get an answer)

Residence is Canada. I would get your sponsorship in ASAP and send in a webform indicating that you have sponsored her. Without proof that you have sponsored her another extension is less likely.

We did send the application for PR but it got returned because of this mix up and are preparing a new one. Since it got returned, im under the assumption that our application fee will be refunded as well but i still have not seen the money back in my bank account yet. So, we are preparing a new application and are wondering if we should pay the application fee again??
It apparently can take up to 8 weeks for the fee to be refunded and we are only 1 week in. Should we risk paying again or wait it out a bit longer?
