If I am applying as an inland spouse, and I entered Canada being from a visa exempt country and stayed the 1 year to fulfill the common law aspect (also got a visitor extention) on the generic application do i choose Canada as country of residence and then choose visitor under status?
You need to extend your visitor extension or apply for a work permit. Opw gives you time to stay in Canada while your permanent resident application is being processed. My opinion apply for it even if you dont intend to use it

Thanks for the awesome advice! I really am looking forward to getting my SIN what would you say is the fastest way of achieving this? Would I have to wait the full year of the application or would it be quicker with the work permit ? Sorry if my questions are dumb
Work permit is the best route and much quicker. It takes 4 months to get the permit. And at least you can work and make money, we need money to survive..lol

Mania would I be able to get a SIN once I have the work permit? The reason I need a SIN is because I am trying to establish credit in Canada and I have purchased vehicles here and everyone says it's better to finance to build credit. I own my own company back in Turks and Caicos Islands and I can prove income and everything but it always comes down to lender needs my SIN so now I am trying to find the quickest way to accomplish this. So will the work permit in 4 months allow me to get a SIN as well?
When immigration approve your work permit you ll receive a letter in the mail and you go to a service ontario and get sin in 5 mins..thats how quick it is..i m in a position like yours more or less trying to build credit.. opw and sin are the first steps my friend. Apply today before tomorrow

Also make sure that your visitor extension does not expire before you submit your application. Ideally, you should have at least a minimum of two weeks authorized stay before you mail your application. If your authorization is expiring soon before submission, better apply again for extension and you can then submit your sponsorship application with prove of application for extension.

I am going home for a visit with my wife and kids for two weeks in March. When we come back they usually give me 6 months. Would it be better to wait until we get back to apply? And also after I apply will I be able to go back and forth to Turks and Caicos? My business is there and I usually go back for a week every two months.
You can always travel after you apply but its at your own risk really. When you come to Canada the maximum stay is 6 months but thats no guarantee you get 6 months. I ve been here 5 times, i got it only one time..and i always come with a return ticket back home.depends the mood of the immigration officer
