Hi guys, I'm in the US and was planning to travel in early May. But looking at the situation here (i'm in the state which is on its way to becoming the epicenter of covid), I'm extremely hesitant to make any major moves right now. I'm not sure how a new immigrant in Canada would have access to healthcare/meds right away (god forbid if you get infected on your way there) or how we'd find supplies and basic necessities when everything is closed/low on supplies. I'm traveling alone and don't have any family in Canada.
Does anyone know if we can still request an extension? Is anyone else still considering that?
EDIT: Has anyone who's requested an extension due to covid heard back yet? Mind sharing what they said?
I just sent an email to Abudhabi IRCC and informed them that it is very difficult for me to enter before April 6 and requested them for an extension looking at the external factors which have made travel very difficult and dangerous right now.
I’m hoping that they will come up with an extension plan for all of us very soon.
Now once we arrive to Canada...it will be case by case choice. Some.go to friends or families. Some to hotel. Some already reserved an apartment. Some AirBNB....its an individual decision! But please have a plan...good plan. As most of things are working with minimum service now.
And that is the issue. People aren't going to have a plan. Just checking into a hotel negates self isolation. The chances of those staying in hotels and AirBnBs actually self isolating and having everything delivered to their door for 14 days are pretty much nil.

If a person goes to family or friends ...then they will help during the 14 days. Try to find a support over there for the first 2 weeks ...that's all.
..after 2 weeks then we can start processing all documemtations
Hi, thanks for responding. Could you please keep me posted on what they respond? Seeing that they're taking 28 days to respond, I'll likely have to send them a webform in the next week.
Assuming your statement is true (which it is not), who will take care of the babies, if god forbid, parents fall sick? At least in one's home country you have family and friends who can help. In a country you've just immigrated to, it'll be very difficult to find reliable childcare.

My US visa is expiring soon, so I have no plans of returning to the US once I leave. But if one has a valid visa or green card, you should easily be able to travel back I think. (unless the US restrictions on flights from Canada get tighter in the future). At the moment Air canada has reduced no. of flights from US and has already stopped direct flights from several US cities to Toronto.
isolate where ever she or he wants to be as per plan if things were normal. Didn't they submit proof of funds with PR application saying that they can sustain themselves while in Canada for sometime till they don't find a job or something. There are allowing us and now its our duty not to be a burden on them and help the cause.
