Hello all,

I would love some help.
I am currently on a bridging work permit whilst my Permanent Residence application is considered by CIC.
I have applied under the common law class.

My issue is, my work permit is due to expire at the end of November but I haven't received word on my PR application.

On the CIC website, it says;

To qualify, you must have applied under the:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program,
  • Canadian Experience Class,
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program,
  • Provincial Nominee Program,
  • Caring for Children Class, or
  • Caring for People with High Medical Needs Class.

Does this mean I cannot extend my work permit?????

Thanks in advance!

Did you apply for PR inland or outland?

If you applied outland, you don't qualify for an open work permit.

If you applied for PR inland, then you should have included an open work permit with the application package (it will be granted approximately four months after the complete application is received by CIC). Note that you would have applied for an open work permit - not bridging open work permit.

Hi Scylla,
Thanks for getting back to me.

I applied for PR inland. I have an open work permit at the moment that is due to expire in November.
My Open Work permit could only be granted until my passport expired (Nov 2017).
My problem is that I haven't received notification from CIC whether my PR application has been accepted. I need to extend my work permit while I wait for CIC to make their decision but I'm struggling to find the correct forms for someone who has applied for PR under the Family/Spouse/common-law category.

Did you get a new passport? You will not get any new work permit, nor will you even be able to land when your PR is approved, without a valid passport.

And is your current work permit through the inland PR app, or was it obtained some other way?

I have a valid passport, I replaced the one that was due to expire.

My current work permit is through the inland PR app.

I believe I need to send in IMM5710e but i'm not sure if there are any other forms I need to send..

I think... If you go through the come to canada wizard thing on the cic website you will be given the application packet/forms you need to fill out.

That is how i went about getting the “forms package” for my recent restoration of status application. I know one of the forms i used would be one of the ones you would need to do (5710) as i saw the extending option on it.

If im wrong someone please jump in!

Thanks for your input,
Im just not sure if I need to re-submit a 'Statuatory Declaration of Common Law IMM5409' or not.

Have you gone through that wizard?

What makes you think you need to resubmit that?

Did you get this sorted in the end? I’m in the exact same situation... hopefully you see this and can help me out .
