Hi everyone,
I got an email today from Rome asking for:
my name and uci
> Notice of Assessment: A copy of the Canadian Revenue Agency Notice of tax Assessment 2012. This must be received at this office by: 12/02/2013
> Attached Common-law declaration. This must be received at this office by: 12/02/2013
sponsor name and uci
> Notice of Assessment: A copy of the Canadian Revenue Agency Notice of tax Assessment 2012. This must be received at this office by: 12/02/2013
My questions are:
1) We sent the common-law declaration form (signed and notarized in June) already in our initial application. Why would they ask for it again?
2) Why do they want to see our Notices of Assessment? Although we did file 2012 taxes as common-law, they don't give any information about us being common-law.
3) After we send these documents, could ask for more additional documents?
It's strange enough that some VOs ask for this in general, as technically it's not even a required document for spousal sponsorship apps. CIC states very specifically the declaration is only required when co-sponsors are involved.
What makes your case even stranger is that you said you already sent it! No clue why they would ask again. Perhaps they misplaced your first one. Unfortunately arguing with the VO that they should already have it, will most likely get you nowhere. So you'll need to get a brand new one to send.
2) Why do they want to see our Notices of Assessment? Although we did file 2012 taxes as common-law, they don't give any information about us being common-law.
Did you submit your Option C printout from CRA with initial application?
CIC probably wants to see that you filed taxes as a common-law couple in 2012. On the notice of assessment it should show your marital status somewhere (i.e. will simply say "single", "married", or "common-law".)
3) After we send these documents, could ask for more additional documents?
Hey Rob -
Well I (the applicant) didn't have to submit the Option C Print-out. My sponsor did though, otherwise they wouldn't even have been able to evaluate her to sponsor me.
As for the NOA, there's no indication at all about the marital status, that's what confuses me the most
