Hello, I am new to this forum, and it's a possibility that this question may have already posted in the pass, however. It would be great if someone could shed some light on this for me. I was a co-signer for a applicant in the family class. The individual got their papers and after 5 years or so went on social assistant for a short period, i was not aware of the difficulty that this individual was facing until recently when i advised that i will be sponsering my spouse. I am now married and would like to sponser my spouse to live with me in canada. How will this affect my sponsership when submitting my spouses application. Do i have to pay back the crown before proceeding with my spouse application?
Has the principal sponsor been billed?
No, neither of us has been billed.
Yeh it depends whom you cosigned for? some is for 3 years not to go on social assistant some 10 years. I know my sister sponsored my mum and my siblings. I understnad mum is principal so it ten years and my siblings is 3 years out ot social assistance touch.
3 years is spousal - there is no co-signing for spousal
If there is welfare to be repaid - they will find it for sure when you go to sponsor your husband
Best bet is to call the province where this person was living at the time & ask if you owe
If they won't tell you - can always try CIC
