I am posting this for a friend of mine who is a Chinese national.
She is travelling Mexico right now and considering the transit in Vancouver on her way to China. However she is not planning to go out of airport (transit time is only 3 hours).
She is wondering if she needs transit visa. Could you please shed some light in to this ?

Generally no visa necessary if she
- holds a valid US visa
- is flying Air Canada, Air China, China Southern, or Cathay Pacific
- arrived on a flight from the U.S.
See "Determine your eligibility – China Transit Program":
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/ctp/eligibility.asp
I am also trying to use the China Transit Program and I validate for the number 2 and 3 below
Generally no visa necessary if she
1. holds a valid US visa
2. is flying Air Canada, Air China, China Southern, or Cathay Pacific
3. arrived on a flight from the U.S.
But, I will be in the grace period of my J-1 American Visa. Do you think the grace period will count as a holding an valid US visa?
