only three months left, that is a little tough.
I've being spending my whole afternoon at the cic. website, and pretty sure that I should be able to apply for the certificate for my son. I will keep reading.
Good luck for your new baby.
If you were Canadian citizen at the time of your child's birth, he/she is a Canadian as well. The only exception is if you were born outside of Canada yourself and became Canadian at birth by virtue of having a Canadian parent. However, even if you were born abroad but became Canadian citizen through immigration, this rule doesn't apply to you -- it means you will still pass your citizenship to your child.
You don't need to wait for a citizenship certificate to apply for your child's passport, you should apply for both at the same time. They'll issue one year passport and once you get the citizenship certificate, the passport will be extended for 3 years, free of charge.
Good luck!
Val
I just did the application for certificate of Cdn citizenship for my 2 kids. I included a request to expedite because we were moving back to Canada. At first it seemed that didn't really make a difference, but then out of the blue, the consulate called to verify we hadn't moved yet because they were ready to courier the certificates. So it took just over 2 months to get them even though the 2 letters of acknowledgement I got mentioned much longer processing times.
Also, as others have mentioned, they will let you into Canada without this and based on my research for OHIP and Ontario schools, they would have been fine without the certificates there as well (however the letter showing we had applied for them would probably be needed).

How? I'm genuinely curious as I was just reading on the passport site and I can't seem to figure it out.
It asks for a certificate of citizenship OR certificate of birth in Canada.
