I am a PR here. I'd like to move my last name to my middle name, and add a new last name. Example: if my name is Tim Smith now, I'd like my future name to be Tim Smith Johnson.
I am married to a Canadian woman, and our future child will have the new last name. So my concern is...I will likely not be able to apply for citizenship BEFORE my child is born. So will it be okay to name my kid Jessica Johnson before I can change my own last name?
Do it before, and make sure you also change it on ALL your docs, including those from your home country, so that EVERYTHING matches.
Everything such as license, health card, banking, etc should be changed so u dont run into any issues.
Even carry a copy of namechange approval when u travel first time, etc
Hi guys
I have changed my name after PR then applied for citizenship on July 2019, I did the exam on Jan 2020 and still waiting for the ceremony that’s take more than 14 months now since I’ve applied
Is that normal ?
(it’s not a non routine as I changed my name before the application not during the process)
Change your name after you get citizenship. You don't want to take a chance of delay with these bureaucratic organizations like the government. Also, why are you changing your name? Is it that hard to pronounce for Canadians?
