So I got the invitation today. I originally applied as Single as I dont think the common-law partner will be involved in the process. We did 2015 tax together as common law. I tried to changed my marital status to common law but it doesn't allow me to do so.

If your common-law's applying EE with you, you will have to calculate his/her age, education, work history etc. with CRS as well.
If not, I'd say contact CIC agent for a advise. I recently got married and my husband's citizen. I originally had my status as single and was trying to change to married even before I got an ITA. The status's area's greyed out
My common law partner is already PR so he is not involved in the EE (thats the reason why I didn't include him in as my common-law partner). I am thinking of adding a letter of explanation as the status has no effect to my score. I will prob give cic a call tmr just to be sure.
Answer NO... as the person is coming to Canada with you's deem as a accompany applicant.
Provide his Passport/PR Card/and declaration of common law relationship after you ITA
