That's not true, If you have a strong SOP with detailed reason(Proving your work experience, How resuming your studies will help your career etc) for GAP than universities and colleges consider your application.I've seen few people who applied with more than 7,8 years education gap and got their study permit.
PS: If you're planning to apply through an agency they may suggest you not apply because of 5 years gap, But you can give a try by applying yourself directly.

Try to have a backup plan. Honestly speaking i hv lost all my hopes.
