My cats rabies shot expired last month he is coming to Canada Sunday. For some reason I thought we got it done in November and didn't worry about it, well I was wrong! It say on the website;

"Animals That Are Not Certified

If a cat does not meet the import requirements for rabies certification, owners will be required, at their own expense, to:

have the animal vaccinated against rabies within a specified period of time; and
provide the vaccination record to a Canadian Food Inspection Agency office."

So does this mean I will be able to bring him over as long as I agree to get him to a vet to get a rabies shot ASAP? Or Should I try and find a vet open on Sunday when I get to him in the US and get it done there? I have no problem getting him the shot but unfortunately my husband is homeless and we don't have anywhere for the animals so I was going to bring them to Canada and take care of them while we wait for PR to go through. How much should I worry about this? I can book an appointment with my local vet so if the border wants to call they can see I am serious about it. I will definitely get the shot done and send it into the Canada Food Inspection Agency I just need to get him here first. I hope we are not totally screwed. Any insight appreciated.

Hey this might be too late but I think it would be a bit of a risk to take your cat to the border without the vaccination.

However, if it makes you feel a little better, I brought my cat across a land border in my car and they never asked for his vaccination history.

We ended up getting him into a weekend clinic for the shot and it was smooth sailing through the border. Because our animals were rescues from the street we didn't have to pay a fee as we did not purchase them since when they are purchased they are treated like goods. So That is something to note for anyone else crossing with animals.
