As long as the parent was a Canadian citizen when the child was born, then citizenship is passed down to the child. In your case, as long as your mother did not lose her British Subject status before January 1, 1947, then she would have became a Canadian citizen on that day; and any children (including you) that were born to her outside of Canada would be Canadian by descent.

What happened AFTER you were born doesn't impact you. It's her status on the day of your birth that matters.
