Hi

Below is my current situation where I need your guidance. This is really urgent.

We (Wife, daughter & myself) had received our Canadian PR in the first week of April. I was planning to go to Canada. Luckily I got an official assignment based out of Toronto from my company. We'll be leaving for Canada next week. The assignment as of now is of 2 months. My company will bear my travel cost, our accommodation and will also provide daily per-diems. The company will also provide official agreement letter of the assignment. The assignment may extend to 6 months and beyond but that is subject to business requirement.

Now my questions are:
  • - Given I will be going on official assignment - the requirement to show proof of funds on landing will not apply to me or matter much. Though I will be carrying around 500 CAD and other 1300 CAD in my travel card. Will also carry soft copy of my bank and saving statement. Will that be fine or do I need to carry lot more cash meeting the POF requirement based on my family size?
  • - Address for PR card & Health Card: I will stay in hotel apartment for 2 months and that address I will be carrying. I don't think I should provide this address on landing since the PR & health card can take up to 3 months to reach. Please suggest
  • - Anything else we need to take care on landing at Toronto airport?

Hi,

1. I dont remember that upon landing you need to show POF do you? You already showed in the application process.
2. Yes I heard they will only send it to a Canadian address. So people have been suggesting to send it to a friend in Canada but I know not everyone who be able to do that. Maybe write to CIC to ask?
3. Sorry dont know about that one. Think the letter you received who have all the details. The two obvious ones are passports and the COPR. Also you can bring in your personal stuff when you move to Canada and they normally won't tax you. There's a column to tick to say you have unaccompanied baggage.

Hope that helps.

2. Check here for the PR card timeline:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/index.asp

You apply for OHIP separately at Service Ontario, not during the landing. Your job offer can be your proof of residency, I believe (not sure since it's a temporary assignment for a few months), but your coverage won't start until 3 months from the time you land.

3. List of Accompanying and List of Goods to Follow: Google these forms

If you arrive at Toronto airport during office hours, it's possible you can get your SIN at the Service Canada office there. Or else, it can follow at any other Service Canada branch.

You do not need to carry more cash. Try to get an updated letter from your bank that shows proof of funds, similar to what you used for your application.

You could use your office address for delivery of PR card if you are comfortable with the idea. I'm sure the border agents would understand why you don't want to provide a hotel address.
