Can I travel on Student Multiple Entry VISA (valid) if my work permit(pgwp) is processed recently ? I

I applied my work permit in September 2022 and have not received anything yet. I need to travel to my home country due to some emergency. I have student multiple entry VISA valid until August 2023. My travel plan is March - April 2023. Can I travel outside Canada if my work permit is approved before I start my travel. Is it safe to re-enter Canada with Student VISA (not expired) and WoRk Permit? Please help me .

Your study permit expires 90 days after graduation so you don’t have one. So not you cannot enter on your study permit. You are under implied status until work permit is approved. You need a TRV to re-enter Canada.


From IRCC site: If you finish your studies early, your study permit will stop being valid 90 days after you complete your studies, no matter what day is printed on the study permit.

Thank you for your response. One quick question : Is TRV the same counterfoil on my passport mentioning multiple entry but is marked as student still valid in this case ? TRV( student) and student permit are two different documents right ? Validity of this student TRV depends on student permit ?

If you have a TRV, you can enter. Your study permit is the same as a student visa and is no longer valid.

This is what you have assumed but definitely not the correct information. The counterfoil/visa is not the same as the study permit. The study permit can be invalid while the counterfoil remains valid.

how long has it been ? It should reach within 7-8 days normally. On re-entry they wont accept your approval letter , you need the actual work permit.

I got the approval yesterday and i have my initial work permit with me but the new wp is an automated extension of my current wp and its approved and i have a valid trv

If it's an extension that's a different story , you should be good as it will show up the new one in their system.

But can i travel ? With this approval letter ? Along with my trv and initial work permit which was automatically extended
As the physical copy of my new WP will arrive late
