Here's a scenario:

The former spouse was designated as non accompany when he came to Canada in Oct 2019. Then the pandemic came. Many relationship broken apart. It's not unusual to get divorced in 2023.

Why would they want to sponsor their spouse right away if they can just land together? What if their spouse want to continue their work outside Canada and without travel to Canada? It doesn't make sense to sponsor their spouse right away if the spouse don't want to make the move.

Thank you ! that's exactly what happened!
The divorce process was also a little bit more than a year.

So this thread went down some paths that didn't actually have that much to do with your case (wasn't really clear some aspects, so not unusual).

To summarize:
-since you didn't sponsor your previous spouse, no issue there.
-getting divorced legally somewhat recently is not itself an issue - IRCC officers will know this is often, depending on country, a separate matter than the relationship being over (just explain briefly when you apply) - divorces can be costly and time consuming and sometimes people just don't get around to it.
-you should look at threads here about how relationships are demonstrated, since you are not yet married. They'll look at extent of relationship, communication, support (financial and other) of each other, etc. Read through the application forms now to see what they'll want to see.

From a very quick and superficial view, based only on me skimming this thread, time spent physically together will be one of most important factors (and if you can address this by spending more time together, do so). "Online only" or mostly online apps are treated more skeptically. [Side ntoe that arranged marriages are a slightly different matter]

Also: if you are a PR (not a citizen), you can only apply to sponsor from within Canada - assuming you travel to marry, you'll have to apply after you return.
