Im trying to organize everything for my common law application.

I just got an extension on my turist visa where i had to send all proofs that im just visiting, and im not trying to live in canada. i got the extension for 6 months, but like i said my letter and everything explains that i have no intentions to live here.

Now my partner is getting his lease renewed, it seems i can be added to it, so for our common law application we can have 6 months while i can say i was here as a guest and i can probably get a letter from landlord, and from now on i could be part of the lease...however is this ok to do?
can i be part of a lease when im supposedly just visiting? will immigration see my first extension application when i say i have no intentions to stay here and then i sign a lease for a year?

im just wondering how to deal with this two things, for one part it seems i have to prove i dont have any intentions to stay here, for other part i need to put together all proofs possible that we are living together so i can apply for common law.

i probably will have to ask for another visa extension and i want to make sure i dont do anything that could deny me to stay here during the common law application

hope i can get some comments! how have others deal with this? any advice? thanks!!

I've never dealt with the situation myself but it's hard to see how this could jeopardize a further visa extension application as long as your partner co-signs the lease with you. It's also hard to see how CIC would even know about the actual parties to the lease unless you choose to tell them.

If it ever did become an issue, you can just explain to CIC that you signed the lease jointly with your partner on the understanding that if you were required to leave the country, your partner would continue to live in the premises alone for the balance of the lease term.

As you say, the fact that you co-sign the lease will be good evidence to have when you make your common law PR application. I think you're fine to proceed.

I agree that this can only help your common-law application.

Good luck!

Definitely a step towards a right direction!

Just curious. Is it going to be legitimate ? Visitors can definitely take lease of any vacation home covering visa period. But of course this can be helpful towards relationship proof which is also a priority.

I even owned a condo here while being a visitor. No problem.
Get your name on the lease. It's the most important proof of your common-law relationship

anyone sign a car lease successfully with visitor status?

That would be much harder. It would be hard for a financial institution to lease you a car because you have no status in Canada, no job, etc. and could leave at any time. It would be a very big risk for the financial institution. If you can get a Canadian co-signer it would likely be possible.
