We just submitted the spousal sponsorship application for outland.
In the file, we attached our joint bank account as proof of genuine relationship. However, we decided to separate the joint account as soon as possible, because I tend to feel very bad of having joint account with the sponsor. The reason is that he wouldn't buy my gift for important event. He thinks our account is jointed so that I can see the price...forgot to mention our pay cheques go to our joint chequing directly...
Anyway, this joint account has brought arguments to our relationship.
If we cancel the joint account, is it going to affect our application? Or it is better to wait till I get an answer from cic?
I don't think that CIC would call the bank to check that the joint account was still in effect so it's probably okay if you cancel it. At the same time though, I'd keep it until they've made a decision just to be safe. You could always open your own accounts and separate your money into them, and leave only a little in the joint account

both of you can, and should, have your own accounts for regular banking, savings, and remuneration stuff, and in addition to that you have a joint account for your shared expenses.
Just leave the joint account as it is, and get your own separate bank accounts for your paycheques. Joint accounts are handy for various reasons, if you want to save for something together, etc. Just make the joint account a savings-only account so there are no fees. But I agree why didn't he just use another form of payment like a cc?
