A close friend of mine has been found with a degenerative illness and she cannot travel therefore for me to meet with her the only possibility would be to go back home. Is there a way I can renounce to my protected person status but keeping my PR card? I know it is possible to apply for cessation of protected person status but I do not know if it puts at risk my PR. Also in case I apply for cessation is there a possibility to put my family's PR status in danger?

There is no way to renounce your protected person status but keep your PR status. The only thing you can renounce is your PR status but then you will no longer be a PR.
I don't know what you mean by applying for cessation.
Traveling to your home county will put you at risk of cessation. Cessation means losing your PR status.

Getting protection from the dangers of your home country comes with significant consequences. Visiting friends and family in your home country without risking losing your status in Canada is one of them.
