I am coming there Toronto to join my course Web Development in Humber Community College. I have 3.5 yrs exp in IT field as Software Engineer/Web Developer.
While doing my PG Diploma (1yr course), Can i go for part time job? is it legal to start my part time work from the first month of my classes starts?
In your other post, you wrote that you would be landing. So I would assume you are PR and should eligible to get your social insurance number (SIN) at any service Canada office in Toronto. You would need to bring your Confirmation of Permanent Residence AND visa counterfoil affixed to a foreign passport or a travel document. With your SIN, you can get a part time job.
On a student visa, you may work on the campus of your college, for example, stock books in the library etc. without needing a work permit. To take a part time job outside of the campus, you need an off-campus work permit. You can not apply for one until you have been studying for 6 months. You can learn more about student work permits here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work.asp
I already heard that, but I just wanted to make sure of it. So, after six months, I can start work. I am going to stay out of campus.
I heard that only students who are inside campus, they will get job sure and there is no option for those who stays off campus.. is that true? or is there any option for the students like to get a job inside campus..
I do not know. I took a course at NAIT and they put up a note asking for students to work in the library re-stocking books. I have no idea who they hired for those jobs. I did not apply. It could also be said that they should be giving the on campus jobs to foreign students because they need a work permit before they can work off campus.
During the 6 months, talk to somebody at your college to try to get a job on campus and if it doesn't work out, you apply for your off campus permit after 6 months. You can start working when you get it.
I just wanted to ask you. For a one year program how come you got a 2 years student visa?? Do they normally do this? I am asking this because I am interested in doing a PG Course in Sept 2011.
