Can I enter Canada on a visitor status while waiting for my Study permit?

I am a grad student and my class is going to start on 6 September. I’ve booked my flight for 22 August but there is no sign of my study permit until now. The application has passed normal processing time. I have raised a webform at IRCC but no response. Although I do have a valid visitor visa. Can I enter Canada on visitor status, wait for my permit there for a few weeks and later change my status to student? I can join my class a couple of weeks late.
