Hi, my wife sponsored me as a permanent residentast year march. I got laid off today and I was wondering if qualify for ei?

I seem to remember reading that my wife has to take full financial responsibility for me. Can anyone please expand on this?

As far as I know, it's not considered welfare. So it's ok to do so.

EI is not welfare. It's an insurance plan that you, as a worker, have paid into. You're entitled to it* and it will not jeopardize your PR status, not will your wife have to pay it back.

*assuming you meet EI's conditions

1. EI is an insurance scheme, you pay in while you work, and collect when you are unemployed, it is not public assistance.
