Can Child and Husband Come to Canada While Waiting for Appication to Process?

We are planning to move to Canada.

I am Canadian and my husband and daughter are American. We currently live in the US. When we arrive in Canada, we will be enrolling my daughter in grade 6 at a Canadian school.

1) Can my husband and daughter cross the border and can my daughter go to school while we wait for their family sponsorship application to process?

2) Should both my husband and daughter be on the sponsorship application or should I immediately apply for citizenship for my (adopted) daughter using the adopted person citizenship application?

3) Should my daughter have a study permit while we wait for citizenship or sponsorship to process?

Americans are usually let into Canada to wait while the PR application is being processed. Still, your husband should be clear that he is just visiting. He should have proof of the PR application (such as the fee receipt) and proof of any ties to the States.

Apply for your daughter's proof of citizenship. She may be a citizen already, in which case she can enter Canada and go to school without paying fees. You need proof she is a citizen, though.

If she is not a citizen of Canada, then whether she can go to school here without paying international fees depends on the school. Some people have just asked the principal if the child could attend. If one said no, they asked at another school, and eventually found one that would accept the child.
