I didn't incorporate or anything, so my business didn't involve any shareholders etc. I simply registered my business with the CRA. The only thing you need is a SIN. My SIN started with a 9 back then and there weren't any problems.
This will be very tricky. You need proof that the work you did was worthy of the NOC you claim. Since you don't have a boss who can confirm that, you would need convinving letters from regular customers/business partners that vouch for your expertise.
Hi!! Does this hold true for people on a PGWP (post graduate work permit)? I do not want to register/incoperate just want to be able to earn revenue by ads.
Do I have to register with CRA ? or just report it on my personal tax return.

Hello
I want to do the same, but i have a question,
can I apply for pgwp immediately after the company is registered?
my doubt is that does the company need to have revenue or a particular number of employees, so I can apply for my wp?

PGWP is issued after you complete atleast one year of study at a DLI institute.
Other types of Work Permit exist which are LMIA based.
I am not sure which wp you are wishing to apply for. Please advise.
No, Canadian Student Visa Holders are only allowed to be educated in one of the recognized education institutions in Canada. If people wish to perform other activities during their stay in Canada such as starting up a business, they will be required to apply for the Saskatchewan Entrepreneur Program or Canada Self-Employed Persons Program. Moreover, if the person would like to work in Canada after he/she graduates, the person may also consider to apply for the Canada Post Graduate Work Permit.

May I ask if you were residing in BC while you registered your business with CRA? Was it a sole proprietorship? If you were in BC, are you aware, if any international student living in any province are eligible to do the same as you did?
Take a look at this short Google post I found:
"If you are a student, and want to start a business while studying, you will have to apply to CIC for a modified study permit to work on your business. A working permit doesn't enable you to become a Canadian Citizen. ... Another government office non-Canadians will have to visit on the internet is Investment Canada."

As I said, I did't incorporate. So yes it was a sole proprietorship.
I was not in BC, however immigration is a federal matter (outside of quebec). So who is allowed to work in what capacity or not should be the same in all provinces (Quebec is a bit different as usual).
