Congratulations! Please keep us informed about the job hunt, because that is the main concern of many of us thinking about moving to Calgary. As I see your noc you wouldn't have issues getting a job but please keep us informed.
What do you mean when you say "dry"? Also, I think it may depend on one's profession. Where Vancouver, I heard has the highest cost of living in Canada, and good for people in hospitality industry.

as per immigrant serving agencies, they assist you in getting a course/program to take. Does this mean the courses is offered by them as government paid (either free or low cost)? or still they will lead you to a good college/polytechnic to do so. They only give advises i assumed?

The programs that they offer are mostly free. You have to meet the counselor and register with them. They will guide you for suitable programs as per your international experience if it is available with them. There may be 3 to 6 months waiting period to apply in programs. Also you have to meet certain eligibility criteria set by them to get admission.
Mbaka!
useful and systematic information provided by you. I m coming to calgary on 29th. Was ur first home furnished? How helpful are settlement agencies for newcomers? I m also coming in NE and I am worried about kids schooling, How did you get prior appointment for school interview?
i am in calgary for last 1.3 years in NE area. a friend of mine just got his two bed room basement vacated, which is fully furnished. if u need any details i can send u his contact. u may also negotiate picking up from airport depending on ur time of landing and his job.
