Hi All,

I hold a British passport and permanent resident status in Canada. My card expired, but my bosses asked me to fly to Chicago this upcoming monday, can I do so? How will I get back in?

I'm looking at a Permanent resident travel document, will this do?

Thanks for the help!

You are not eligible for an eTA. If you apply for one, it will be refused.
You will have to apply for a PRTD or cross the land border in private transportation. Note that the PRTD could take some time to process.

It can vary considerably and you can only apply while you are outside Canada.

There are no other options. There is zero chance of a PRTD being processed in one day, as you have to mail your actual passport to NY, LA or Washington D.C. to be stamped and then receive the passport back.
Your only option if you go is to re-enter at a land border.

Applying for a PRTD is a pain in the ass, don't bother. Just go to the US and cross the border.

Hi,
It is worth considering flying to Chicago, and then driving to Detroit and entering Canada using a private car. You should have your expired PR and your Landing paper.
I have done this before.

Just drive to Buffalo or Detroit, park your car, and take the plane. You drive it back to canada. Simple.
