I am an Indian citizen living in Canada on a PR status. I recently got engaged to my girlfriend from India and we are planning a wedding next year Jan,2016. I have heard about the absurd sponsorship processing times (10-14 months), and it frightens us both to stay separated for such a long time. I was wondering about the following options:
a) To apply for her visitors visa (TRV) to Canada before the wedding, or applying for sponsorship.
b) To get married, apply sponsorship, and as soon as I get an AOR, apply for her vistors visa (TRV).

Option A is the best option out of the two choices. Once your girlfriend is married, she will have a hell of a time getting TRV on account that she would then have stronger ties to Canada than to India all because of you being her spouse. With Option A, if she gets TRV, she will have an option to come into Canada and stay with you during sponsorship, inland or outland. If, in the event, that your gf is denied TRV, then at least you tried and you have no choice but to go with Option B. Get married, come back to Canada and apply outland.
Incase I go for option 1, Should I provide her a letter of invitation with relationship as Fiancee, when she applies TRV from India? Or can I just mention her as a friend.
Incase her TRV gets rejected, does this imply her future TRV applications will be difficult to get approved.
Also in any situation, I do not want to jeopardize her sponsorship case to be applied after marriage.

It is a tricky situation. You can try for visitor visa, but what is the chance it will be granted? My fiancée and I faced the same quandary. We decided rather than wait in the hopes of her coming here on a visitor visa (when she wouldn’t be able to work and would be sitting at home bored while I was at work) best to get married and apply for spousal visa ASAP (which is what we did).
