First year is really sufficient to see what a government looks like in the next few years.
When Harper was first elected in February 2006, the government introduced new simplified application process for PR after just 5 months in office (July 2006) to fight backlog from previous Liberals government.
why do you ask? why do you want to become a citizen slowly?
nothing wrong to be a citizen asap which could bring a stronger sense of belonging and more stable immigration status.
What a stupid question! People came here as immigrants and want to be fully integrated and not 2nd class citizens as soon as possible, why do you ask that question?

From my feeling, Bill C6 become a joke. no one want to talk about it, and no one care about it. I was landed Jan 2014, after that, Bill C24, let me wait for 2 more years to become a Canadian, and then Bill C6 give me some hope. and now, I feel like, did I truly want to hold Canadian passport and Vote?
I just wonder why do you have to wait for 2 additional years while C24 introduced only one more year.
Anyway, going through many of the posts here, i feel like we are being tortured every day till we get our citizenship. Take it easy guys, I fully understand that getting our citizenship soon is a big relief to all of us but not getting it earlier while intending to stay in Canada is still OK. Just go enjoy your life..there is a lot of fun out there

Some have to wait an extra 2 year since they can no longer rely on pre-PR credit under the 4/6 rule. Under the old 3/4 rule, a PR can claim 2 days of pre-PR time as 1 day towards citizenship. Under the old rule, a PR claiming pre-PR credit can qualify for citizenship after 2 years of being PR. Using 2 years of pre-PR credit allows a PR 1 year toward citizenship along with 2 years as PR. This total 3 years, enough to qualify for citizenship.
You, I and all who were affected by C-24 and held their nerves watching the progress of C-6, all of us, will ultimately be CDN citizens.... I'm sure, in one way or another, our votes will matter!!! Talking about myself, I believe neither CONs nor LIBs will gain my vote if C-6 didn't become a law and enforced in 2016, I'm sure many others are alike!!
