Hi,
My boyfriend is Nepalese and is applying for a TRV. I'm a Canadian citizen. We've been in a relationship for 1 year now. I visited him in February and just came back. He wants to come visit in August. There's a couple of reasons for the visit - tourism (he's never left Nepal before), visiting me, and most importantly, seeing if Canada is somewhere he can potentially move to one day. He wants to apply for a study permit in a year or two and part of the trip will be to visit different campuses, talk to faculty and look at the different programs.
Couple of things that I think are red flags and make a weak application:
1. He's a first time traveler - never been outside the country
2. Financial situation - he currently has very little funds since he's helping to pay off debts for his family. His uncle is rich though and can loan him money, and I will be covering all the costs of the trip anyway and will put that in the invitation letter.
3. We're in a relationship and that might make them think he will overstay his visit.
Outside of these factors I think he does have strong ties - all of his family is in Nepal, he is the firstborn son and is helping his parents pay off debts, he is heavily involved in some kind of student political faction and is currently President of a university chapter, he has a full-time job that he has to return to.
What are his chances of getting a VISA and how much information should I be disclosing? Is saying that we're in a relationship overkill?
Thank you!
