Royal Assent = 'Become Law' right ?
I meant come into effect/become applicable. You know what I meant, come on :-D
We're not lawyers, at least I'm not :-D
I modified my previous comment to be more accurate.

Apologies my 'quasi compatriote', I didn't mean to point a mistake or make you unconfortable. Just wanted to make sure that your message was in fact pointing out the vast talent of speculation that our colleagues here (including myself) are demonstrating here
Let's hope that the bill we be adopted before the end of the parliamentary session.
And if I was a lawyer, I would have taken a sabbatical leave just to sue the government over C-24 and strike it down ... We wouldn't need C-6 and these 69 pages of speculations ...(even if I kind of like it)

Why is that ? Since when the Senate has become the all-mighty chamber ? Should I remind you that the Liberal party was elected in October 2015 with a majority government ?
Exactly
I guess since the Senate doesn't have an immigration committee, C-6 falls under Social Affairs?
what is current status of C6? Has it passed second reading in Senate yet?

Good question dude. I think it's back to first reading ;D
PS, if you're lazy or don't have time to read forums, bookmark this page:
http://www.parl.gc.ca/LegisInfo/BillDetails.aspx?Mode=1&billId=8117654&Language=E
According to the LegisInfo website, progress bar is showing only last two stages are left (out of total of 7). However, there are some very interesting analysis.
If you compare timeline of
Bill C-6 to
Bill C-24, you'll notice that Senate approved C-24 in 4 days (that's including all 3 hearings) and even bill got Royal Ascent the same day.
Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology took just one single day to publish their report without any amendments.
However if you look at Bill C-6, it came to senate on 17th June 2016 and
it's currently at '2nd Reading' stage reportedly on 15 December 2016. That's almost 5 months and 28 days since it came to Senate (
The entire timeline duration of Bill C-24 including both House of Commons and Senate is 4 months and 13 days). It was referred to
Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology on 15th December 2016, so lets see how far they can drag it.

They are very optimistic. This is good!! However, THIS BILL WILL NEVER PASS because of the Terrorist clause. This is a revenge bill between the two parties and not just a bill.
Be professional in your life 8) Look smart when you talk ;D
Its transferred to committee, where this clause will be edited then it will pass

"I think it by february will become a law."
"
"I believe by march bill will be approved "
What I understand:
If what you guys say is correct, the bill
SHOULD get Royal Assent somewhere between February-March 2017 and
COULD become applicable anywhere between July 2017-March 2018.
Fingers crossed
It will get royal assent in feb/march and it will be applied as soon as possible.
Dont worry there will be no delay and backlog, just during cons gov they delay citizenship because they know immigrants might vote for libs.
libs want new citizens as much as they can before 2019. its 2017 already

No national interest policies are same that's why C6 is struggling from last one year.

C29 C35 took 1 year, its normal
Guys!
Per the link below, it shows that the mentioned bill has been sent back to HOC due to the amendments required by Senate, but it has been stuck then till june. Same can happen to C-6? since it is very likely to be passed with amendments.
Then again all 3 readings should be processed for the changed bill? first reading, second reading and third reading in HOC, then it is to be sent back to senate or it goes directly to Royal assent if the changed bill is approved by HOC?
oh it doesn't allow me to post links. If you look for C-7, you see how it is stuck in HOC.
it could be a bumpy road during the committee hearing. see how long it takes for c2 at committee and third reading.
just did the headcounts of the committee. there are 8 conservatives and steven harper appointed independents as opposed to 7 liberals and justin trudeau appointed independents. bill c6 is gonna be tough.
