Best way to bring US boyfriend and his son to Canada

Hi everyone. I am new here. Here is a little background...

I was living in the US for 7 years. I started dating my BF 3 years ago. I came back to Canada 10 months ago to take care of my sister who is very ill needing a bone marrow transplant. I thought about going back to the states but decided to stay in Canada . I am starting school in june. When I moved back to Canada , My boyfriend and parted ways but now realize that we can not be with out each other.

He wants to come to Canada with his 16 yr old son. What is the best way for him to come here? Can he stay with me on a visitor visa and his son go to school until we can file for the common law ? or is it best to get married? can he come up here and we file and he can get a work permit and his son go to school? Also can I sponsor him as a student or should I wait until I am working?

Did you live together for a year straight? If not, then you won't be able to apply common law until then. As for his son, I believe he could, but he would need permission from his mother (if she's still alive) and also have to pay international student fees. You can sponsor as a student, that's not an issue.
