I've been in Canada on a study permit for several years. I'm about the submit an application to be sponsored by my partner with whom I've been in a common-law relationship for 2 years. However, in my recent (few months ago) TRV application made from *within Canada*, I had indicated single rather than common-law by accident since I didn't realize we were considered common-law at that point.
My lawyer is planning to include a letter with my PR sponsorship application explaining it was an honest error and we will provide them with proof of the common-law relationship, (which started before I the TRV for which I indicated single). Will they understand or will I be found for misrepresentation? Even though I already have the TRV, I have not left or reentered Canada yet. Will this help?
Senior members please help. I'm losing very much sleep due to this and don't want to be separated from my partner or have my studies halted.

Thanks! Do you know how long the amendment takes to process? What can I expect after I send the letter? I've applied for a study permit also (that has since expired) and another study permit (still valid) with single on it before the TRV.
I'm not sure what you mean by "Is the TRV for you after your study permit expires". But here's the situation.
study permit 1 is expired (accidentally indicated single when actually common law).
study permit 2 still valid (also accidentally indicated single when actually common law).
TRV still valid until expiry of study permit 2 (also accidentally indicated single when actually common law).
According to a link which the forum isn't letting me post:
"Only errors made by immigration officials will be corrected. If the information was recorded incorrectly because the same error was listed on your ID documents when you landed in Canada, no amendment will be issued."
Has anyone ever used this form to amend mistakes they themselves have made (not errors by CIC).
